Construction for the Business 40 upgrade should begin in the Fall of 2017. According to their website, the timeline for construction should follow the following schedule.
CONSTRUCTION SEGMENT A: Fourth Street Bridge and Peters Creek Parkway Interchange Fall 2017 – Fall 2018*
CONSTRUCTION SEGMENT D: MLK Jr. Boulevard and Academy Street improvements Summer 2018 – Fall 2018*
CONSTRUCTION SEGMENT C: Business 40 West of The Strollway to East of Church Street Fall 2018 – Fall 2019*
CONSTRUCTION SEGMENT B: Business 40 West of Green Street to East of Cherry Street Fall 2019 – Summer 2020*
PROJECT COMPLETE Late 2020*
The main impact of the project, the full closure of Business 40, is expected to start in late 2018 or early 2019 only after the Peters Creek Parkway section is completed and opened to traffic. Business 40 is not expected to be closed more than two years.
